An Indonesian air force transport plane, which was carrying 13 people, crashed into a mountain during a training exercise in the remote region of Papua on Sunday. The crash killed everyone on board the Hercules C-130 plane, a search and rescue agency official reportedly said.Bad weather is suspected to be the cause of the crash, Air Force Chief of Staff Agus Supriatna told MetroTV. The plane took off from the city of Timika before crashing near its destination about 124 miles away in Wamena, Ivan Ahmad Riski Titus, operational director of Indonesia's Search and Rescue Agency, saidaccording tothe Associated Press.Titus said rescuers located the crash site on Lisuwa mountain and bodies of the victims were being brought back to Wamena.
The plane was reportedly carrying food supplies and cement when it crashed just minutes before its scheduled landing. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.
President Joko Widodo said on his Twitter account authorities will carry out a review to so that such incidents do not happen again.
