Donald Trump Is Time's Person Of The Year

  • Time editors quantified that Trump repeatedly broke with political precedent after campaigning as an anti-establishment, populist candidate.

US president-elect, Donald Trump has been named Time’s 2016 Person of the Year.



The businessman and politician beat singer Beyonce, American gymnast Simone Biles, former first lady Hillary Clinton, Facebook founder, Mark Zuckerberg, and Russian president Vladimir Putin to the honour.
Time editors quantified that Trump repeatedly broke with political precedent after campaigning as an anti-establishment, populist candidate and got elected as the 45th President of the United States.

The ‘Person of the Year’ is an annual issue of the United States news magazine, Time, that features and profiles a person that has done the most to influence events of the year.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel was honoured as Time’s 2015 person of the Year, with Trump as runner-up.

Outgoing US president, Barack Obama was named Person of the Year in 2008 and 2012, Mark Zuckerberg got the honour in 2010, while Pope Francis was given the honour in 2013.
Africans who have won the honour include Ethiopia’s Haile Selassie I in 1935, and former Egyptian president, Anwar Sadat in 1977.

In 2014, the Ebola Fighters that helped stop the spread of the disease when it was rife in West Africa, were named Time’s Persons of the Year.
