Technology: Microsoft Will Pay Consumers To Switch From Apple Devices

Microsoft is trying to cash in on the holiday season demand by luring consumers away from rival Apple's range of devices.

“If you have a Mac but want to experience the ultimate laptop with on-screen touch, Surface and Microsoft Store are here for you,” Microsoft announced Thursday.

The company will pay consumers up to $650 if they choose to part with their Macs. The catch is — you will have to spend that money on a Surface Book or a Surface Pro 4 device. Microsoft’s "Trade in, Trade up" Laptop program is the company's buyback service for businesses and consumers, and includes more than 100 models of Apple's MacBooks.

If you own an iPad, Microsoft is willing to exchange it for a Windows tablet and give a discount of $455 for the purchase. Apple’s iPhone 7 Plus will fetch consumers $580 sumin Microsoft credit. The offers are valid for U.S. customers from Oct. 27, 2016, to Nov. 10, 2016.

Microsoft competes with Apple with its new range of devices, including the Surface Studio, which takes on Apple’s iMac, while the company’s newly launched Surface Book i7 competes with the new Apple MacBook Pro.
