Ghanaian man identified as Stephen Donkor has been charged for pouring acid on his 18 year old girlfriend, after she threatened to leave him. The 21 year old who appeared at an Accra court today, was remanded in police custody by the presiding Judge, Mr James Kojo Botah who charged him with attempted murder of his girlfriend, Mary Oforiwaa.
According to Ghana web, the prosecutor’s case which was brought forward in court indicated that Oforiwaa who is a trader had been threatening to end their relationship over suspicious feeling, his boyfriend was cheating on her.
Speaking in court, prosecutor Gregory Yeboah told the court that on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at about 10pm; the pair had a serious misunderstanding after Donkor returned from work to meet no food in the house. At about 1am the next day, the prosecutor said Donkor went for the acid which he hid under a kiosk and poured it on the victim who was fast asleep.
After the tragic act, he ran out of the house as Oforiwaa woke up screaming for help before a witness in the case came to her aid and rushed her to Faith Hospital which after she was referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital where is presently on admission.
According to the prosecutor, he also stated that Donkor rushed to Darkuman police station in Accra to make a quick report that someone had poured acid on his girlfriend, saying he suspected the witness in the case.
The witness was apprehended, but after proper investigations were put in a place, it was revealed that it was Donkor who committed the crime.
