Sierra Leonean students in Russia and Venezuela “do not have even food to eat” because their home country has not sent their allowances for 15 months now, according to the President of the students’ union in Russia, Mohamed Kamara. He says some are living under
the threat of expulsion from their universities “because they cannot pay for accommodation, medical insurance, registration and visa renewal”. The visas of many of them expire in December with Russian law mandating that foreign students submit their passports for extension 40 days to the expiration date. “The situation is terrible and unbearable” Kamara says.
