If the Government decides to stop fuel susidies, the price of Fuel will definitely be on the rise. this increase in the cost of fuel will immediately have negative effect on the transport sector.Other sectors
like health, education, local goods and many more will be overbearing. The Government realizing the economic downgrade of the country is working on implementing austerity measures, collection of taxes and other means to save money. Lifting the fuel subsidy may be one measure the Government will enact to ease the crisis.
According to Edmond Abu, Executive Director of the Native Consortium and Research Centre, the statements made by the Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Bangura, that the Government is losing Le86 200 billion on fuel subsidies are untrue. Abu says, “there is no fuel subsidy in the national budget and the Government has not provided evidence to such subsidy since 2012.”
